To start off with, in many cases, Toyota is struggling to make cars that look "good" to western buyers. You buy it because its cheap and has good warranty. You buy it because Toyota has a good track record of reliability and relative cheap maintenance record, but does it look good on the road. To be honest, in many cases NO, except this particular version of Camry produced in 2009+ for the Asia market. It was a standard 2.4 liter engine, non-turbo engine that produced about 160 BHP, but also available in 3.5 lite engine in certain countries that did not have harsh engine taxes. But the appearance appealed the vast of owners, as it was highly likable and similar to Toyota's luxurious market version Lexus ES. Since then, the Toyota Camry has not really looked good.
With a few modifications, non-warranty modifications, you could make your Toyota Camry 2009+ version feeling a Lexus ES by adding extra sound insulation and road handling.
So yes, Toyota managed to make one of their larger sedan look good, but after that, they having problem again.
